10 Tips to Hosting the Ultimate Spring Housewarming Party

What’s a springtime move without a party with your dearest friends and family to experience it with you? If you’ve recently moved (or are planning to move soon), especially if you’re staying local or headed to a city where you already know a few people, then hosting a little get-together or big soiree could be a fun way to let everyone know you’re settling in just fine.

Most people will want to see you and get a quick tour of your new home, and then the real visiting can begin. Follow our tips for the ultimate spring housewarming party:

  1. Timing definitely matters. Pick a date and time that works for you — even if it’s a month or two after you’ve moved to give yourself time to organize and unpack the bulk of your belongings.
  2. Send your invitations early. Texts, Evites, paper, Facebook Events, or an email … it doesn’t matter. Just try to let people know to save the date with your new address
  3. Consider an open house style. This way, your guests can pop in for a drink or stay and linger without a specific start and end time.
  4. Plan the menu with springtime food in mind. Think seasonal salads, spring fruits and berries, fresh garden veggies, and/or Cinco de Mayo
  5. Set the tone with the front door décor. This could be a celebratory banner, helium balloons, or festive garland around the front porch — anything that lets friends know your place is the party place to be!
  6. Choose a signature drink. From frosty lemonades to fruity sangria to mint julips, pick a featured cocktail or mocktail to serve guests upon their arrival.
  7. Add some party games to keep it lively. You could make a variation on “Two Truths and a Lie” or add a Jenga game “guestbook” for everyone to sign their names in permanent marker on a wood block. Bonus for this idea? You can re-live the party from the year you moved in for many years to come.
  8. If the weather cooperates, add some outdoor fun to the mix. Think yard games, a firepit, tiki torches or citronella candles to help set the mood, and an al fresco
  9. Send guests home with a small party gift. One we love — spring-scented candle votives from a local craft or dollar store, paired with a cute note: “Thanks for helping us warm our home!”
  10. Gather addresses to keep in touch. A paper guestbook or actual address book is a cute way to keep tabs on your friends for future holiday cards and thank-you notes sent via snail mail, especially if you mainly keep in touch through social media or texting.
