Things Not to Do When Moving to Miami

If you’re about to call Miami home, you’re probably imagining your future life as one big long vacation. It’s true, you will be able to call all of your friends and relatives (almost anywhere in the U.S.) and brag about the temperature year-round. Just be prepared, those calls might lead to LOTS of visitors – so if you’re feeling anti-social, you might want to keep your good fortune to yourself.
Let’s now get down to the nitty-gritty. If you’re about to make the big move, you should consider these tips of what not to do from people who know Miami like the back of their mojito.
Drive fast, or move over. The people of Miami do not have time to follow speed limits. So drive your car fast or move over into the right-hand lane.
Think you can run in and out of the grocery quickly. Even though the cars move fast, expect everyone else to move slow – restaurants, grocery stores, etc. Miamians are in no rush running day-to-day errands.
Forget ear plugs. If you’re used to a nice quiet office environment, be warned. Miami offices are typically loud and proud. It’s not uncustomary for people to just yell over office cubes, so come with your ear plugs or make private calls outside the office.
Expect to keep friends forever. Miami is extremely transient, so your friend circle will be a revolving door.
Decide to submit yourself to a life of sobriety. Miamians take their drinking very seriously. Mostly all plans will include a few drinks beforehand, so expect it and just go with the flow.
