5 Secrets to Sell Your Home Faster

moving companies

Once you’ve made the decision to list your home for sale, the focus instantly shifts to how best to sell it quickly. Nobody wants to have their property sitting for sale too long. It’s time to get moving, right?

So just how exactly is that accomplished? This is an age-old question for realtors and sellers to discuss, but we have taken a look at five time-tested strategies to help you move your property from “listed” into the “sold” category as quickly as possible.

The key, of course, is to focus your attention on projects that will rapidly boost your home’s appeal to prospective buyers. Here’s our list …

  1. Clear away the clutter.
This probably seems simple enough, but it’s not always easy, and yet this key is incredibly important. In an earlier post, we gave you 50 ways to help clear out clutter and simplify your home, from removing excess in the kitchen to tidying up the living room to tackling unfinished business in your garage or storage area.

  1. Stay neutral.

This approach includes incorporating neutral paint and carpet colors throughout your home, as well as removing extra personal touches and photographs. The goal is for buyers to walk into your home and think, “Wow. I sure could see myself living here. I really hope I can move in soon.” Naturally that’s not as easily accomplished if they’re staring at a giant headshot of your loved ones or gawking at a portrait of you and your precious family.

  1. Finish those repairs.

The “maybe someday” list can feel long and arduous at times, but if you want your home to sell soon, go ahead and tackle whatever you can afford in your budget and calendar. From replacing a light bulb to addressing the cracks in the front concrete, it’s important that buyers see your home as one that is safe and well-maintained. This is also important to consider from a safety perspective before your home goes on the market.

  1. Make your home spotless.

A well-kept home is helpful when you list it for sale, but an immaculate house is a definite selling point. This step involves the nitty gritty, from removing stains in the carpet (or possibly replacing it entirely) to cleaning walls and paint trim, to moving extra furniture into storage to meticulously cleaning all of your rooms and appliances. (And for some people, this means hiring a professional service to get the job done.)

  1. Dress up the front door.

This might involve a fresh coat of stain or paint, adding new hardware, or changing the color entirely, which is a relatively quick and easy way to completely change the look. It also means getting the front porch area into the décor of the season. Another aspect to incorporate is a well-lit pathway along the sidewalk and front bushes or hedges.
