How to Send Cute Moving Announcements

What? You’re moving? How can we stay in touch?

This might be something you heard last year, if by chance you’re among the 35 million Americans who created a Change of Address in 2021. If you haven’t moved recently, while the economy continues to shift to more remote work than we had a decade ago, coupled with a rising cost of living in certain regions of the country, you might find yourself wanting to move soon.

Which begs the question, What’s the best way to let friends and family know your new address? We’ve compiled a number of ways you can do just that, below, from the most casual to more formal.

  1. Send a text – This is probably most helpful for close friends and family, or anyone who needs to know your new physical address right away.
  1. Craft an email – You can send yourself an email with the new address, and BCC any friends and family who should know how to reach you or might wish to visit once you’ve finished moving into your new place.
  1. Send an online or e-card announcement – If you’re planning to have any type of housewarming party, this could serve a dual purpose through an evite or an online greeting card. Worth noting: As tempting as it is, avoid sharing your physical address on social media, just in case your account is ever hacked, or if an ex-love or a “frenemy” wants to seek revenge.
  1. Print a photo greeting card – This is a relatively inexpensive way to send a bulk number of greeting cards, or pass them out to local friends before your moving company shows up. Some fun options include sending a picture of your pet, with the phrasing such as, “My cat and I have a new address …” or “Our dog has some new digs!” Online vendors such as Shutterfly abound, or try your local photo counter at a nearby drug store or pharmacy.
  1. Print or handwrite stationery announcements to mail – A simple “We’ve moved! Keep in touch!” card with your new USPS mailing address can add some pizzaz to your message. Plus, sending this via snail mail feels like one final box crossed off on your moving checklist.
