Outdoor Living: Making the Most of Your Space this Summer

Outdoor Living Tips From Our Moversoutdoor space

For prime summer months in much of the United States, nothing quite beats enjoying outdoor living spaces and places. Chilling on the patio, relaxing on the porch, or savoring a sweet meal with friends on the deck? All call for making the most of your outside space.

If you’ve been wondering how to maximize your outdoor living space this summer, we’ve got you covered. Here’s our how-to guide, in six easy steps:

  1. Designate casual conversation areas.

Keep the focal point on connecting the people, and watch your outdoor entertaining space come alive. Don’t be afraid to move furniture around and try different combinations. By creating special conversation nooks that lend themselves to organic conversations, you’ll craft a place where people want to linger.

  1. Incorporate outdoor rugs to define a space.

Whether it’s paired with an outdoor seating arrangement, dining table, or underneath a pergola, adding a beautiful outdoor rug will make a space appear larger. Try to find a polypropylene rug — they’re usually stain-resistant, easy to clean, won’t fade from sunlight, and able to handle heavy foot traffic. (Just keep them away from a firepit, as they’re also highly flammable!)

  1. Pillow talk.

Within your designated conversation and seating areas, don’t be afraid to pile on the style by using multiple throw pillows and blankets. You can even swap out the color scheme for different whimsical seasonal looks, particularly if you entertain beyond just the summertime.

  1. Add a focal fire pit.

Make time for s’mores, stories, and more with a firepit and seating that oozes quality time. Whether you use a propane table, a smokeless Solo Stove, or a woodburning fire pit with a lid doesn’t matter. Just pair it with the appropriate seating arrangements to allow for plenty of time to simply enjoy one another’s company.

  1. Invest in a quality table.

Especially if you do a fair amount of dining or entertaining outdoors, invest in a high quality, durable outdoor table made from teak, acacia wood, or powder-coated steel if you have the space. Additionally, be sure it’s weather-resistant and can hold up for a significant amount of time and usage.

  1. Bump up the bistro.

Don’t be afraid to weave in some funky bistro lighting that makes for a magical evening long after the sun sets and extends your together-time hours. One to try: these solar Edison string lights from Home Depot can hang far away from a power source (such as a tree or the edge of a gazebo).
