How to Host a Friendsgiving

Before the hustle and bustle of December moves into full gear, having the chance to gather with friends over delicious food and drink can be an incredibly fun way kick off the holiday season.

Enter: Friendsgiving. A day of giving thanks with, and for, your dearest friends and “framily” members.

What does it take to pull off a Friendsgiving party with aplomb? If you’re hosting the event, following these tips can make for a simply fabulous get-together.

Plan Ahead

You’ll want to design your invitations, create the guestlist, and identify the menu (or a simple drinks menu, if you opt for a potluck) well in advance. Additionally, you can create a music playlist and have any games or some simple adult “craft” ideas prepared well before your guests arrive. If you use an Evite or a SignUpGenius to invite guests via email, you can also list sample items that you’d like each guest to bring.

Keep it Simple

Decide in advance what’s most important to you, and then make that your focus. Is it the food? The music? The tablescape? At the end of the day, spending time appreciating your closest friends should really be the main priority, so stay focused on what will help you and your guests relax and enjoy each other’s company.

Decide on the Drinks Menu

Consider a signature cocktail drink and a serve-yourself drink station. One to try: this yummy apple pie sangria. It’s a perfect fall sangria made with white wine, caramel spirits, crisp apples and fresh apple cider. Another winsome idea to try: serve chilled wine in a carved-out pumpkin. (This also makes for an adorable centerpiece!)

Plan the Décor

What’s a Friendsgiving without some gorgeous snack place cards, a warm color scheme, and a beautiful floral or even an edible centerpiece? These are all just decorating options, of course, but could potentially help make your entertainment dreams come true.

Be Thankful

This one might seem obvious at first, but demonstrating an attitude of gratitude goes a mighty long way. Science has shown that gratitude can improve our relationships, and even improve both our psychological and physical health. Not only that, but grateful people sleep better and have more self-esteem. Rather than complain about the things we think we might deserve, be sure take a few moments to focus on all that you do have.

At Beltmann, we hope these tips help you re-connect with your friends on a new level this year. We are so happy to be your favorite local and long-distance mover and wish you a very happy thanksgiving.
