Great Holiday Moving Tips

Moving right before the holidays is never ideal, but here are few great tips to make your holidays a little less hectic and even more exciting.

Create a Holiday Box

When you’re moving before the holidays, you want to make sure you can find your favorite holiday decorations when your boxes arrive. One of the first holiday moving tips would be to gather all of your key holiday decorations and holiday hosting items and put them in a specific box or boxes. Then, decorate the outside of the boxes with holiday stickers to help notify the movers that the Thanksgiving or Christmas items should be placed in an easily accessible area.

Try Take Out

One of our worst enemies is trying to do too much. During this busy time, consider ordering groceries from a food delivery service like Hello Fresh or Amazon Fresh. You can even consider take-out at places like Whole Foods or even Bob Evans. Less stress, less grocery shopping—more enjoyment!

Be Less Ambitious

It’s OK to be do less with your decorations this year. Consider using just a few key items, such as a wreath, your ornaments and stockings. You can leave the rest in boxes. Your efforts should be on unpacking your house rather than stressing about all the holiday décor. By keeping this year’s decorating to a minimum, you’ll eliminate some stress.

Keep the Holidays Low-Key

Paper and plastic can be a great alternative to the fine china and crystal. You can reduce the need to unpack all of your dishes. Load a Pandora holiday channel on your phone, light some candles and enjoy a more simplified meal with your family.

Start a Few New Traditions

Make this year special by creating a few new holiday traditions. If you’re used to hosting large parties or going to particular events in your hometown, change it up and find some new traditions. Grab a local newspaper or visit your new city’s chamber website to see what holiday events are happening. Plan to try on a new holiday tradition for size— especially one that allows you to get out of the house and experience your new town.
