Considerations for Moving In High Heat
May 30, 2014
The summer months are typically when most people in the United States relocate. The downside to this hustle and bustle of moving in the summer months is the high heat that some parts of the country experience. As you make your move to the Phoenix area, make sure you follow these tips to stay healthy while moving in such warm temperatures.
1. Hydrate. Make sure you have plenty of water on hand. If you’re experiencing extreme temperatures you might want to consider a beverage with added electrolytes to keep your body from becoming dehydrated. Drink to thirst and remember, if you are thirsty then you’re already dehydrated.
2. Take frequent breaks. Taking breaks can help you take time for water and to find some shade or an air-conditioned space to cool off. Depending on the extremity of the heat, you might need to find a way to have fans and other ways to cool yourself and your moving crew.
3. Wear light, loose fitting clothing. If you wear layers, make sure they are light materials, preferably natural fibers or fabrics that will keep moisture away from your skin. Tight fitting, synthetic fiber clothing might feel like you’re in a sauna all day.
4. Set up your utilities before your moving day. Running across town to an unfamiliar location to try and set up your utilities so that you can have air conditioning while you sleep at night doesn’t sound like a good way to start off in your new home. Making sure you have this done beforehand can make for a nice evening relaxing in your new home.
