Bringing the Outdoors Home

For much of the U.S., spring is in the air — which likely means more outdoor time after surviving the winter, or more moderate temps if you’re headed into a sweltering summer.

If you’re looking to make the most of your time at home and have access to a backyard or patio, Zillow.com has these suggestions to enjoy the outdoors at home.

  1. Create an outdoor lounge space – Sure, you can scour the Internet for lounge chairs, outdoor sectionals, hammocks, etc. But it also doesn’t have to be fancy — access to some outdoor pillows and a few candles does the trick!
  1. DIY Outdoor Movie Theater – All it takes is a white sheet mounted on a flat surface and a projector, and voila! you’re in business to play movies, TV shows, or even concerts on YouTube.
  1. Make your own Outdoor Bar – Buy a new one, re-purpose a table or a desk, or make your own with some wood and concrete. Grab the Bluetooth speaker, some fabulous cocktail recipes, and bring the bar vibe straight to your very own space.
  1. DIY Fire Pit – You can make your own fire pit with a few basic supplies, shop online for a used one, or for a few hundred dollars, purchase a brand-new propane fire table. (Which definitely comes in handy if you’re on a patio or a deck.) Bring on the S’mores!
  1. Dining al fresco – Start with the basics: an outdoor dining table and chairs. Then add an outdoor rug and a string of lights to transform your evening meals into a virtual cafe. For bargain outdoor dishes and tableware, check your local Dollar store, a rummage sale, or your favorite retail outlet.
