Bicycling Friendly Minneapolis

In recent years, bicycling has become a healthy, popular trend. Between the health benefits and the positive impact on the environment, people of all ages seem to be getting into bikes. Biking can also have a great impact on your wallet: replacing the car with a bike for city travel saves on gas and car maintenance, which are both expensive in metropolitan areas.

If you are making your move to Minneapolis, you might be surprised by how bike-friendly the city is. Recently Minneapolis was voted by the number 2 biking city (out of 50 cities) in the nation by Bicycling Magazine. The city boasts 92 miles of city bike lanes, and 85 miles of off-road trails.

The City of Minneapolis Bicycle Program has created miles and miles of shared-road bicycle lanes that allow commuters on main roads. These lanes weave in and out of major parts of Minneapolis, which means bikers can get about anywhere downtown almost as quickly as when driving. But even outside the city, Minneapolis has ample biking options. Enjoy a relaxing ride through the mountain biking trails that surround the city.

You can also join one of the many bicycle clubs and organization to enlighten more people of the benefits of biking. The Minneapolis Bicycle Coalition’s main mission is to advocate for a city where bicycling is encouraged and everyone feels comfortable riding. Both experienced and newbie riders will find the city to be welcoming to those on two wheels. Whether you’re looking for a new bike, wanting to learn more about bike mechanics, or just want to commute to work in a more healthy way, Minneapolis has you covered.
