5 Bathroom Trends That are Going Away in 2023

Trends From Our Moving and Storage Team

Bathrooms are private spaces that can ooze luxury and relaxation. And they can also be a place to showcase some style and pizazz. If you’re moving and listing soon, doing a whole bathroom makeover, or simply a little updating, it makes sense to pay attention to trends. Hopefully with a little planning, this could help you avoid the possible pitfall of living with a space you really don’t like for the next five to 10 years — or worse, listing a place your potential buyers don’t appreciate.

Recently, Forbes magazine outlined various trends in bathroom styles that are decidedly on their way out in 2023. Here are five we think you should know:

  1. All-White Bathrooms

While it’s easy to think that all white décor helps a space loom large, the truth is that dark tones and vibrant patterns can help add luxury and depth to even a small space. Design expert Paige Wassel explains: “A small bathroom doesn’t always have to be a beacon of blue skies and bright sunshine to feel substantial. That’s not to say it always needs to be dark, I’m just suggesting that white and bright not always be the default. Fight the fallacy.”

  1. Minimalism.

A popular trend for many years now, minimalist design is also on the way out. If it’s done right, then it’s usually more work than most people imagine. And it can look boring and dull if it’s done wrong. Instead, try to look for dramatic patterns, bold colors, and layering various textures and materials.

  1. Chevron Tile.

Just like the farmhouse look tends to be overdone, the chevron tile look has fallen into the “love it or hate it” category — with more people hating it as of late.

  1. Large Format Tiles.

Similarly, large format tiles were trendy for a time to reduce grout lines and create a clean, contemporary look. However that trend has waned, and now designers are trying to incorporate smaller-scale, more artisanal-looking tiles for a more traditional look in 2023.

  1. Glitzy Mosaic Style.

Say goodbye to the shimmer and glam in bathrooms and look for much more of a spa-like serenity feel. What does that entail? Try using color-blocking with tiles that have textures. And more subtle patterns with bold colors. According to interior designer Holly Freres, these can still evoke a feeling of playfulness within the space. “This gives a calming feeling for the eye but not too serious.”
