5 Things to Do 2 Weeks Before Moving Out

Couple Clearing Garage For Yard Sale

You’re excited and overwhelmed. You’re moving in just a few weeks and it seems like your list of things to do is just too long. For those in Miami, it’s easiest and most efficient to let the professionals do the actual packing. But, before you sit back and relax, there are a few things you need to do now to ensure this move goes well.

#1: Let’s Get the Clutter Under Control

Take a good look around your home. How much is “stuff” that really does not have any useful purpose in your home and is taking up space? That’s clutter. Ask yourself if you really want to take these items with you to your next home. You could even bank a few dollars by doing so. Use an app, such as LetGo or OfferUp to help you to sell items quickly. Having less to pack and move means more control in your new home.

#2: Get Into That Garage

Perhaps you are one of the lucky people who has a large garage. It’s nice to be able to park your car in there to avoid weather conditions. But, you haven’t been able to do that in a few years. You have too much stuff. By two weeks out, you need to have gone through and cleaned out the garage making piles for give away, selling, and trash. Because garages are large spaces, they tend to be a catch-all, which ultimately will make cleaning them out challenging. Tackle this now.

#3: Create a Schedule for Organizing and Packing

Now is the perfect time to create a schedule. Use a Google Calendar app if you like or a piece of paper. The goal is to write down which areas of the home you’ll target first. By cleaning out these spaces now, you can get rid of extra clutter while also getting more of a sense of what you own and need to plan for.

#4: Map Out Your New Home

You know where your bed will go and the position of your couch, but what about everything else? Use a basic application or diagram tool on your tablet and create a map of your apartment. Place objects the way you want them to be. The movers will appreciate this later.

#5: Get Paperwork Under Control

Now is the time to pay off your bills at your existing location, contact your utility companies about your new location, make change of address adjustments, and notify everyone else of your new location.

You’ve got a few weeks before your move. Aside from locating your Miami Mover and getting the packing started by the team, these tips will get you on your way to your new home.
