First Impressions: The Best of Spring Porch DIY Ideas

In the mood for something new at your front door? Ready to spruce up your DIY game?

For both your guests and your own household, the front door will be the first thing you see, so it’s a great idea to make a grand statement with something you will truly love. (This is doubly true if your home is already on the market and you’re planning to move soon!)

We scoured Pinterest for some of the best outdoor set-ups, and have a few easy finds to share with you.

Galvanized steel buckets.

Go for the monochromatic look with flowers of a similar hue (like all-yellow, or all-lavender), then vary the heights … and you’ve got an instant art piece!

Rainboots & more.

Early in the season, this is great for faux florals. As the weather warms up, you can even add “potted” annual plants such as tulips, ivy, long grasses, or mums. If you’re crafty and frugal, look for great rubber boot deals at Goodwill or a local second-hand shop.

Summertime on the porch.

Grab the wood crates and stack them vertically, throw in some tall lanterns, and a chalkboard sign with a message such as: “Summertime: Easy Living” or “Hello Summer”. For more of a beach or lake house vibe, add some decorative seashells (real or fake could both work) or decorative sea glass.

Spring Farmhouse porch.

For this timeless look, here are the supplies you’ll need to find:

A small section of picket fence, a long wooden board, wood stain, stencils, black & white paint (for signs), a galvanized watering can, a rain barrel, and potted flowers.

Paint or stain the fencing to the color you prefer, and next stain the wooden board and paint “Welcome” on it. After that, stencil-paint the watering can with your house number, a la “No. 117” to look like an old-fashioned milk jug delivery.
