Three Things to Know Before Hanging a Flat Screen TV

If you’ve decided not to hire your Milwaukee mover to hang your flat screen TV, then you’re probably trying to figure out the best way to install on your own. If you don’t have a lot of experience any slip-up, could be a disaster waiting to happen. Since most flat screen TVs are a hefty investment, take care with some of these tips.

Mounting

Before you attempt to hang your TV, stop by your local electronics store to purchase mounting hardware. Ask the salesperson to guide you to the best type for your TV size and brand. Mounting hardware can range from $50 – $250 depending on the size. There are three types: flush-mount, tilting and full-motion. Flush-mount will allow your TV to hang closest to the wall – good for smaller rooms or tight spaces. Flush-mount does not allow your TV to move once it has been hung into place. Tilt mounting will allow your TV flexibility to adjust up and down. Full-motion mounting, just as the name implies, allows you to have more flexibility with moving your TV up and down, plus side-to-side.

Location

Think very carefully about where you plan on hanging your flat screen before you install your mounting hardware. Things to consider: lighting, location of your furniture and height. Most people like to have the middle or upper third of the screen level with their eyes. Also remember that you must mount your TV hardware to studs.

Cables and Hardware

Before you make a final decision on your TV placement, be sure you’ve talked to your cable provider about the types of hardware and chords you’ll need to access. The worst thing you can do is mount a TV and then realize you had to run a cable in the back to get the TV to actually turn on.
