Kitchen Cleaning Hacks

Having a home professionally cleaned is always an option for those who’d like to pay for the service. But what about between service weeks, the occasional deep clean, or if you’re really just trying to save some money in today’s economy?

We’ve scoured the Internet once again (yes, pun intended!) and come up with a handy list of our all-time favorite cleaning hacks to help make your kitchen cleaner than it’s ever been.

Here they are, in no particular order:

  • Use Bar Keeper’s Friend to scrub stains off the bottoms of your pans to make them look new again.
  • Soak gas stove grates overnight in a sealed plastic bag with some ammonia.
  • Combine 1/2-cup white vinegar, 1/4-cup baking soda and 1/2-gallon of water to make an eco-friendly cleaning spray.
  • Combine 1 part hydrogen peroxide and 2 parts water to make a grout-cleaning solution.
  • Place an open box of baking soda in your cabinets to help keep the kitchen smelling fresh.
  • Mix 1 part vinegar and 9 parts water to clean wood floors without any streaks.
  • Heat 2T. of oil, then add 3 T. of salt to clean a cast iron skillet.
  • Use ketchup and a soft cloth to clean tarnished copper or brass pans.
  • Mix 1/2 cup baking soda in 2 gallons of water for an effective solution for scrubbing tile floors, especially with dirt that’s stuck.
  • Clean off your oven racks with a bath of dish soap, dryer sheets, and hot water — and let them soak for 4 to 6 hours or overnight.
  • To freshen the kitchen air and across the entire house, simmer a homemade potpourri, made with water and cinnamon, orange slices, cloves, or other fragrant spices on the stove.
  • Use large tongs wrapped in an old t-shirt or a microfiber cloth to quickly clean your blinds.
  • Use Pledge to polish a stainless steel refrigerator or faucet.
  • Polish a stainless steel sink with flour.
  • Clean the outside and inside of wooden cabinets with Murphy’s Oil soap and water combined.
