Near downtown Milwaukee, Brady Street is nine blocks long, running east to west from Lake Michigan to the Milwaukee River. It\u2019s an ethnically diverse community known for some of the city\u2019s finest shops, restaurants, and cafes, many locally owned and operated and with their own unique personality.<\/p>\n

Brady Street was first named in 1840, and consists of buildings built between 1860 and 1930, of many different architectural styles. It was home to early Polish, German, and Irish immigrants. It became mostly Italian in the 1930s, and many businesses retain their Italian names.<\/p>\n

The 1960s brought peace and love to Brady Street, filling it with flower children and hippies. There were underground political publications and a hippie-fest called Brady Street Days.<\/p>\n

The neighborhood is always getting together and celebrating something. Experience the quirky Pet Parade, a community ice cream social or one of their bigger events. The Brady Street Festival draws people from all over with its three stages of live entertainment including popular local bands. There is also a rock climbing wall, a BMX stunt team, a Pro Wrestling Ring, vendors, crafters, and children\u2019s activities. This neighborhood also hold \u201cFestivus\u201d each December, the fake holiday mentioned on the Seinfeld sitcom. This is a time for laughter as people \u201cair their grievances\u201d and perform feats of strength.<\/p>\n
