Living in Milwaukee: Things to Do This Spring

Your Milwaukee mover has unpacked and pulled out, and now you are free to enjoy the springtime in the city. What will you do first? Here is a list of some of your options.

With or without the kids, you can find endless activities at Discovery World. This experiential museum provides learning opportunities in science, technology, and environmental issues through interactive exhibits and other activities. You’ll find hands-on exhibits, live shows, interactive labs, a public park, amphitheater, cafe, dock, and a view of Lake Michigan.

One of the first stops for candy lovers is the Jelly Belly Visitor Center in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin. Take a train tour of the warehouse and taste the gourmet jelly beans. Visit with the Easter bunny on April 7th from 11:00am-1:30pm. Photos are available, as well as face painting, balloon art, a magician, raffles and prizes.

Go underground at Cave of the Mounds, a National Natural Landmark. This is a natural limestone cave with guided tours on paved and lighted walkways. You will see colorful crystal formations like stalactites, stalagmites, and columns. Wear a jacket, as the temperature is 50 degrees year-round. There is also a Butterfly and Prairie Garden to enjoy.

Go back in time at Cedar Creek Settlement, listed in the National Register of Historic Places, located north of Milwaukee in Cedarburg. This little town consists of a historic main street that looks like it did at the turn of the century. There are specialty shops, galleries, restaurants, coffee houses, two restored inns and many buildings and homes with historic value to explore.

Get artsy at the Cedarburg Cultural Center. Hear blues, jazz, classical, and folk music performances, take classes like clay and painting, and attend festivals, art exhibits, and historical programs. Don’t miss the 65th Annual Ozaukee County Art Show, open through April 22.

You’ll forget you ever needed a Milwaukee mover as you settle into your life as a Milwaukee resident. Checking out these interesting places will make you feel more and more at home.
